Awards Presented during the Convention - Neville Hackett, President of RIBI 1991/1992 - presented with the International Service Award for a Polio-Free World. Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Bangladeshi economist who pioneered the idea of micro-credit loans that inspired many Rotary projects, won the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize but at the Singapore Convention, was presented with the "Award for World Understanding", for his work helping the poor start businesses through micro-credit loans from Grameen Bank. The award money of US$100,000 went directly to the Grameen Bank. |
