History | ||||
Inner Wheel came to Egypt via the first club to
be formed in 1971. The Inner Wheel Club of Cairo was thence
formed and within the same year, clubs were formed in
Alexandria, Heliopolis and Al Mansoura. Four clubs in the first
year paved the way for 3 more clubs to be formed in 1972 - Guiza,
Cairo South and Alexandria East. The momentum continued and in 1975 Tanta was formed; in 1978 al Mahalla; 1979 Cairo North; 1980 Cairo West; 1981 Damanhour and 1982 Port-Said. In 1984 3 new clubs were formed - Zamalek, Guiza Pyramids and Al Menia. IW Club of Ismailia was the last club to be formed in the '80s. Over the next decade however, the spread continued with Nasr City in 1993 and Sphinx in 1994. The dawning of the new millennium seemed to cause great excitement within the ranks of Egyptian Inner Wheel members with no less than 10 new clubs being formed between 2002 and 2010 - Sharm El Sheikh in 2002; Guezira Club in 2003; Garden City 2004; Kasr El Nil, Al Shourouq, Al Tahrir, Alexandria Sporting and Mediterranean in 2006; finishing the period with Alexandria Cleopatra and Nile in 2010. Of the 30 clubs with total membership exceeding 969, the biggest club as at 2010 was the IW Club of Zamalek with 111. The District has also been responsible for the creation of 3 New Generation/Daughter Club in Egypt and 1 in Jordan. District 95 was the first District in the IIW to create these New generation clubs under the inspiration and guidance of 2005-2006 Chairman Samia Abou El Foutouh |
